Choir visit to Hursley

Tuesday 28 April 2009

All Saints, Hursley, nr Winchester, is the parish where John Keble was vicar for many years, and on Saturday 25th April, at the invitation of David and Janet Warwick, who are the current owners of the former vicarage, the College choir gave a concert in the church and enjoyed an afternoon's celebration of the life of John Keble. Keble is buried in the churchyard, and it was at his funeral that our founders took the decision to go ahead and found Keble College in his memory. We all - choir members, Warden, Chaplain, Simon Whalley and Isla Smith, greatly enjoyed the generous hospitality offered by the Warwicks and others from the church and the village of Hursley, which included a fascinating talk about John Keble by David Warwick. 25th April, St Mark's Day, was John Keble's birthday, and was celebrated again at the College on the following day with the St Mark's Day service and dinner.
