Professor John Edwards FRS

We regret to announce the death on 11th October 2007 after a period of illness of Professor John H Edwards, Emeritus Fellow, MA, MB BChir (Cambridge), FRCP, FRS. Aged 79, he was Professor of Genetics at Oxford and a professorial fellow at Keble, 1979-1995. Formerly he had been at the Medical Research Council Population Genetics Unit, Oxford, then a geneticist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and at Birmingham, England. Having held a Visiting Professorship of Paediatrics at Cornell University, he became Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Birmingham, 1971-1979, before appointment to the Chair of Genetics at Oxford. He and others described in 1960 the syndrome associated with trisomy 18, eponymously named the Edwards Syndrome.
