Regensburg Lectionary Digitised

Thursday 19 January 2017

In January we digitised our College treasure, the huge and lavishly illustrated Regensburg Lectionary. Capturing digital images of all of its 616 pages was a major undertaking which took several days to complete.

The work was carried out on-site by Colin Dunn of Scriptura and was overseen by the Oxford Conservation Consortium. The book cradle used was a bespoke one, custom designed and built as part of the HEFCE-funded project Early Manuscripts of Oxford that digitised some of the most fragile manuscripts of the Bodleian and of other College libraries.

Transferring this unique handwritten 13th century book to digital format will help to preserve the original for posterity and, at the same time, enhance access to a historically important and heavily used resource.

Various events will be held towards the end of the year to mark this milestone and to recognise the generosity of the many donors who made the work possible.
