Entered College in Michaelmas Term, 1914. A member of the University Contingent of the Officers' Training Corps. Commenced service on 8 April 1915. Second Lieutenant of the 3rd Battalion Devonshire Regiment, 1915; attached to the 25th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps, 1915; Lieutenant, 1916. Served in France and Belgium. Awarded an M.C. for:

Conspicuous gallantry during operations. He supported the infantry attack with a machine gun. After practically all his gun team had become casualties he served the gun himself, and remained in action as long as the gun could be of any use.

Killed in action at Ravelsburg Ridge, near Neuve Eglise, 14 April 1918.
