Academics
Professor Harry L. Anderson
Welcome
I am the Tutorial Fellow in Organic Chemistry at Keble. If you would like to find out more about my research interests, please visit my departmental website.
Research Interests
- Synthesis and supramolecular chemistry of large conjugated π-systems
- Conjugated polymers and oligomers; organic semiconductors
- Molecular wires and charge-transport through single molecules
- Dyes for two-photon absorption and second harmonic generation
- Molecular recognition, self-assembly, cooperativity and template-directed synthesis
- Photobiology, photodynamic therapy and optical probes for living systems
- Porphyrin and rotaxane chemistry
Most of my work concerns the use of synthesis and supramolecular assembly to explore structure-property relationships, for the creation of functional molecular materials. I enjoy collaborating with physicists, engineers and physiologists to understand the interplay between electronic delocalization, molecular architecture and function. I like making things; if I were not a scientist, I would probably have become a craftsman or an inventor.
