Keble Financial Support
Keble College offers an extensive range of financial support for its students. This is available through both need-based and achievement-based programmes.
Support for Academic Achievement
The College provides a range of support for undergraduates through prizes and scholarships for academic excellence. See the further details here.
In addition, the College and the Keble Association support the study and travel activities of students through a series of grant programmes.
Need-based Support
As a complement the funding available from Oxford University and the government, Keble College is able to offer additional support to students who need it.
Buchanan Bursaries for the Humanities
The William Buchanan Bursaries have been established to assist up to five second or third year undergraduates (chiefly pursuing Humanities degrees) from low-income family backgrounds with continuing costs during their time at Keble with an award up to £1000 per year. There is no need to apply for this directly as eligibility is determined by the same information as university support.
The bursary is named in honour of William Gavin Buchanan, who came to Keble in 1945 after extensive war service in Europe with the Canadian Army and later in life became a very keen supporter of programmes to support disadvantaged young people and people with disabilities. The bursary is presented by his son, Jamie Buchanan, who was also at Keble.
Baxter Bursary for PPE or Law
The Baxter Bursary is a means-tested bursary meant to benefit a PPE or Law student in the second or third year of study. The conditions and award are similar to the Buchanan Bursary. It was set up by Alison Baxter (Law 1985). Alison wanted to provide immediate help for students with real financial needs and has already supported 3 students to date in this way. The bursary is also open to students reading other subjects depending on need. There is no need to apply for this directly as eligibility is determined by the same information as university support.
Craythorne Scholarships
Each year the Worshipful Company of Cutlers invites Keble to recommend names for the Craythorne scholarships. The Trustees of the Charitable Fund have agreed to make available the total sum of £2500 to Keble students. The overriding criterion is the financial need of the candidates.
College and Keble Association Student Support Funds
Overseas, home and EU students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship may also apply to the College for financial assistance. This may vary from small emergency amounts, to slightly larger grants particularly to support a student through the final stages of their degree.
