The Partition of India 70 Years On: History, Legacy, Meaning
by Dr Maria Misra, Fellow and Lecturer in Modern History
This August will mark the 70th anniversary of the largest migration in human history. Fifteen million South Asians were displaced and more than a million killed as the subcontinent was, in Ghandi's words, subjected to the greatest vivisection in history. Yet despite the high drama of these events there is still a little agreement about its causes, meanings or legacies. Maria Misra will explore recent debates in the historiography, literature and film of this dark tragedy in British and South Asian history.
Venue: Blake Morgan Group LLP, 6 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3DJ
Please note the event is now fully booked. If you wish to be added to the wait list, please email Veronika Kovacs.
