Further major pledge to Oxford from James Martin
Tuesday 24 March 2009
Adding to his foundation gift to set up the School of the 21st Century at Oxford, Dr James Martin (Keble, Physics, 1952) has promised to match up to $50m (£36m) in large donations to the School, the interdisciplinary body set up four years ago to tackle "the toughest global challenges" of the next 100 years. Dr Martin said: 'My view is that while we may be distracted by today's credit crunch, we must not forget the bigger picture - that we need to safeguard a future for the generations that follow us.' The pledge was announced on 12 March, and the evening before, the Warden hosted a dinner in honour of Dr and Mrs Martin at Keble.
