Sir Jonathan Phillips KCB joined Keble as its Warden in October 2010. In this role he chairs the College’s Governing Body and oversees both Keble’s current activities and its plans for future development.

His immediate priorities include the successful opening of the H B Allen Centre, a major new facility for graduate students; the extension of the College’s work to encourage the most able students from the widest variety of backgrounds to apply for undergraduate places; sustaining Keble’s reputation for excellent scholarship and teaching; and strengthening the community of alumni and others who wish to support its charitable aims.

Before his Keble appointment Sir Jonathan had a long career in the Civil Service. In 2002, after some twenty-five years working mainly in economic departments in Whitehall, he moved to the Northern Ireland Office, first as Political Director and then Permanent Secretary. In that capacity he supported two Prime Ministers and four Secretaries of State in the Northern Ireland peace process.
