Simon Gareth Moss
Simon Gareth Moss (2021 EMBA) died on 27 February 2024 aged 49.
Simon was born in Cheshire on 1 September 1974. At the age of three, he moved with his family to live in Brunei and so had an interesting childhood, experiencing travelling to different countries in the Far East, and living in a different culture. He attended Berakas Service Children’s school until he was nine when he moved with his family to West Germany. There he attended Blandford Service children’s school until the age of eleven.
His secondary education was at a boarding school, Haberdashers Monmouth School for boys in the UK. At this school he enjoyed many sporting activities and represented his school in various sporting activities including tennis, rugby and swimming. He also excelled academically.
In 1993 he started his university education at Bristol University where he studied French and Politics and obtained an Upper Second Class Honours degree in 1996.
Simon started his working career at Lloyds of London where he was a graduate management trainee. He worked in political risk insurance and various other departments and was seconded to Bermuda for two years.
On his return to the UK he took up an appointment with KPMG where he was a Strategy Consultant in the financial services team. He undertook a range of assignments for global financial services firms and private equity companies. He spent two years working as an investment manager in Columbus, Ohio, working as an investment manager with Nationwide, the American financial services company.
Following his return in 2002, he became the Deputy Managing Director of Gartmore Investment and was head of European Private Equity investment. In 2010 he became a Founder Partner at Hermes global private equity, growing it into a very large and successful business.
Simon continued his education throughout his life at several institutions both abroad and in this country. The two most recent business qualifications were from Harvard University followed by Keble College, Oxford, where he obtained the degree of Master of Business Administration with Distinction.
Simon is sadly missed by his loving wife and three children, his parents, three sisters and all of his other close relatives and many friends. A life cut short too soon.
