Why are the Talbot Bursaries needed?
The University provides Oxford Bursaries to students with a household income below £50,000. They receive £1,080 to £4,320 annually, but this essential financial support often isn’t enough to cover the living costs facing students today. We have aligned eligibility for the Talbot Bursary with the Oxford Bursary, providing an additional £1,500 package for those who need it most.
As one of the University’s less wealthy colleges, we find ourselves in the top quartile of college rents with an average of £6,300. The £1,000 rent rebate will ameliorate this situation for our students receiving little to no financial support from their family.
The £500 annual meal subsidy in Hall is enough to attend 21 regular dinners and 3 formal dinners each term—enabling recipients to partake regularly in this vital part of College life.

“The Bursary contributes to my meals in the Hall, which means I can spend my money on books and study materials. It is donations like yours which allow people to live comfortably at Oxford, who would not necessarily have the means to otherwise.”

Offering support across the decades
The Talbot Bursary Fund is currently supported by various income streams, including one-off major gifts and the Bursary Endowment Fund.
Thanks to the Reunion Gifts, we are able to enhance this fund by raising £30,000 per year. If enough alumni contribute to their Reunion Gift, we can provide these vital Talbot Bursaries to all eligible students (approximately 100).
Our goal is that at least 200 alumni from each reunion group commit to £10 per month for three years; with Gift Aid, that’s only £150 per year for each donor.
The Talbot Bursary Fund was launched at the 1980s Decade Reunion in September 2025 to great success: so far, we’re only 52 individuals short of our goal!
Every year the next decade of alumni will be invited to join in as they return to College for their reunions; the 1990s in 2026, the 2000s in 2027, 2010s in 2028, the 2020s in 2029, then back to the pre-1970s in 2030.
We hope as many of you as possible will come together to celebrate, reconnect, and reflect on your time at Keble—while making a tangible difference to the lives of our current and future students. If you prefer to jump in early, please do! And if you’re unable to attend your reunion, your help is still needed and greatly appreciated.
