Andrew Monk (1979) – Andrew builds technology manufacturing businesses, successfully selling some of them to overseas buyers. In 2014, Andrew founded ioLight Limited with Richard Williams, crowdfunded with the help of several Keble Entrepreneurs. The pair patented a pocket digital microscope that uses machine learning to identify images, empowering innovative researchers to compete with well-funded labs. A thousand microscopes later, Andrew wonders whether UK hardware manufacturing might help to address the UK productivity problem.
Hadley Barrett (1996) – Starting at the age of 14, Hadley has owned, founded, built, sold, managed, invested in and supported companies, projects and teams across Europe, running the Oxford Sustainable brand for over 20 years. He has chaired and sat as a non-executive director on the boards of private funds. He was elected Chairman of the Oxford Entrepreneurs Network (the Oxford alumni network for entrepreneurship.) By some counts, there are over 42,000 alumni involved and interested in entrepreneurship and business from Oxford University. He has owned companies in sustainable real estate, land management, agriculture, technology, sustainable consultancy and media in the UK, Estonia, Latvia, Norway, Finland, Romania, The Netherlands, Guernsey and the US, among others, and achieved a number of industry firsts and awards. Hadley currently runs the UK-based Oxford Sustainable LTD – an innovative start-up disrupting sustainability by making it ‘4-clicks and done’ simple and profitable. Oxford Sustainable has built a deeptech/AI ecosystem and product, sustainability units, which aim to become the gold standard for the environment.
Julia Warszewski (2015) – Julia is co-founder and CEO of Vayla Health, a healthtech start-up building a voice AI clinical service for older adults at home. Vayla enables older adults and their families to speak to an AI ‘nurse’ by phone whenever something seems wrong, which gathers the relevant information for clinical review and connects them to a doctor when needed. The company is initially working with home-care providers and is currently launching its first pilot.
Before founding Vayla, Julia spent eight years in strategy, product and operations roles at technology companies including Deliveroo and Worldpay, working on new products and zero-to-one ventures. She studied Archaeology and Anthropology at Keble before completing her MBA and INSEAD.
