Congratulations to Our 2023 Finalists

Many congratulations to our 2023 finalists! They have weathered the storm of the Covid pandemic and its lockdowns and also met the challenges posed by the national marking and assessment boycott.

122 Keble undergraduates completed their course this year. Because of the boycott, some of them don’t yet know their final degree classification and a few have a provisional class that might be raised once the marking is complete. So far, 47 undergraduates have been awarded firsts and 96 per cent have either a first or a 2.1, which is a great achievement. This year, many, but not all, returned to Exams Schools for their finals; some subjects took their invigilated exams on laptops instead of using pen and paper.

Students taking integrated Masters courses (i.e. over four years) in mathematical sciences are now also given MSc-style classifications. Five of the 7 students concerned were awarded Distinctions.

There were notable results for some subjects. Seven of the ten students sitting English Language and Literature or English and Modern Languages were awarded firsts; seven of the 11 Engineers gained firsts; and six of the eleven Geographers also. There were also individual successes in University prizes, notably in Economics & Management and Computer Science.

Success in Finals is not just a matter of studying hard. Our students have relied upon the support of friends, family, and, in many cases, members of the College and University welfare teams. We tend to focus on individual achievement, but we cannot overlook the vital support that our students give to one another, not just during the exams season, but throughout the year.
