Jonathan and Amanda Phillips Awards

Last Trinity Term, the College introduced The Jonathan and Amanda Phillips Awards as a fitting tribute to the outgoing Warden and his wife.

The awards recognise the many contributions that students — undergraduates and graduates — make to College life. The aim is to celebrate the different ways that students have worked on behalf of the Keble community — for example in access and outreach, charity work, environment, equality and diversity, leadership, services to the JCR or MCR Committees, or sports and societies.

The judging panel this year included the Warden, the JCR and MCR Presidents, Senior Tutor, Communication Manager, and Fellows Foteini Dimirouli and Ed Peel. Six awards were presented at the end of Term, with each winner receiving £250 and an invitation to High Table.

The 2023 winners:

Amanda Westcott (2019 MSt, DPhil History) — As Senior Chapel Clerk, Amanda has tirelessly ensured that the Chapel continues to serve the College, its students, and the broader community fully.

Andreea Chiriac (2021 MMath Mathematics) — Often going above and beyond her role as JCR Welfare Officer and peer supporter for 2022-23, Andreea has been a key member of the college community.

Emanuele Prezioso (2018 DPhil Archaeology) — An active and engaged member of the MCR, Emanuele has organised events, championed the Arts, and has served as Welfare Officer.

Sierra Sparks (2021 DPhil Engineering Science) — Sierra has made significant contributions to college life through her roles as the MCR Equality and Diversity Officer and Keble College Boat Club (KCBC) Women’s Captain.

Jake Birdwell (2020 History and Politics) — JCR Treasurer Jake’s contributions have included co-editing the Keble arts magazine Rigg, and organising a US conference which brought together Keble students in a different academic setting.

Ambika Bhargava (2021 PPE) — Ambika has championed access and outreach through Keble at Large, and, as JCR Entz Officer, has consistently strived to engage all members of college with college life.
