Knighthood for Honorary Fellow alumnus Andy Street
Congratulation to Andy Street (1982 PPE), who has received a knighthood in the 2025 New Year Honours for Public Service.

Sir Andy was elected as the first Mayor of the West Midlands in 2017, and served two terms for the Conservatives until 2024. He was one of a new group of Metro Mayors: accountable to more than three million people, his responsibilities included economic growth, transport, housing and employment.
Before entering politics, Sir Andy had a successful retail career and was the Managing Director of the high street giant John Lewis, which he had joined as a graduate trainee before rising through the ranks and overseeing one of the most successful periods in the company’s history.
Keble College elected Sir Andy to an Honorary Fellowship in 2017 and his portrait (above) was featured in the College’s first Portrait of Keble exhibition in 2019.
In November 2024, Sir Andy became the new chair of the board for the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
We hope to share the names of other alumni whose achievements have been recognised in the 2025 New Year Honours list in our upcoming Hilary Term brick newsletter.
