Recognition of Distinction Professorship for Alfonso Bueno-Orovio
Tutorial Fellow in Computer Science, Alfonso Bueno-Orovio, has been awarded the title of full professor through the 2025 Recognition of Distinction Scheme at the University of Oxford.
Successful applicants of the scheme have shown evidence of research excellence, committed and effective teaching, and good citizenship, including activities of service on committees, EDI initiatives and public engagement.
Professor Bueno-Orovio’s work sits at the intersection of computer science and cardiovascular research, within the field of computational medicine. He combines clinical, experimental, and computational data to understand the interplay between heart structure and function, particularly how this contributes to arrhythmias. Applications include risk stratification of patients, personalised therapies, identifying new therapeutic targets, and evaluating safety of treatments without over-reliance on animal models.
Through his research, Professor Bueno-Orovio is contributing to the advancement of computational medicine and our current understanding of heart function. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honour.
