Sir Andreas Whittam Smith (1937-2025)
The College is deeply saddened to share the news of the death of alumnus and Honorary Fellow Sir Andreas Whittam Smith (1957 Philosophy).
Andreas was a financial journalist, who, in 1986, founded The Independent newspaper, and served as its first editor. He was subsequently the president of the British Board of Film Classification and First Church Estates Commissioner, overseeing the Church of England’s multi-billion pound investment portfolio.
Andreas was president of the Douglas Price Society, the College’s Legacy Society.
