Max Fitz-James is a Tutorial Fellow at Keble College and an Associate Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Department of Biology.
Before he joined Keble, Max was an Independent Research Fellow on a Wellcome Career Development award. He obtained a BA in Natural Sciences (Genetics) from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Edinburgh before postdoctoral work at the Institute of Human Genetics, Montpellier and the Department of Biochemistry, Oxford. His research explores the contribution of non-genetic information to adaptation and evolution. With a background in epigenetics and chromatin biology, he applies molecular biology techniques to various insect models to determine the genetic and epigenetic factors responsible for inter-individual variation. He is particularly interested in the inheritance of epigenetic information across generations, and the molecular mechanisms underpinning insect polyphenism.
