Xianxin obtained his PhD in physics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2018.

He is currently an RCE 1851 Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, a Stipendiary Lecturer at Keble College, and Head of Research at Lumai, an optical computing start-up.

Xianxin has ten years of experience in quantum optics across the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, and China, and recently he focus on optical computing technologies. Some of his recent research highlights include developing a novel method for all-optical training of neural networks, building the world’s first self-trained optical neural network.
