When you read this poem you will have to decide
Which of the “yous” are “you.”

2023 marked the centenary of James Schuyler’s birth. To celebrate, a series of events was organised in New York, generously supported by Schuyler’s estate, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Turtle Point Press, the Modern and Contemporary Colloquium and Some Contemporary Poetries at NYU, and Keble College at Oxford. Always More Roses honoured and explored Schuyler’s achievement, and sought to encourage new encounters with his work.
The initiative was organised by Matthew Bevis and involved collaborations with Dia, NYU, and The Poetry Project. It featured a symposium and readings, some of which were livestreamed and/or recorded. More information about the events and speakers is available here:
- Dia – It Goes, It Goes
- NYU – A Morning For the Poet
- The Poetry Project – Hymn to Life
Following on from these events, future plans include a collection of essays on Schuyler’s work (as poet, novelist, dramatist, diarist, correspondent, and art writer), and an exhibition of his photographs.
