Thomas Stevens is primarily a historian of late imperial Russia and the Soviet Union.
His research explores the comparative histories of military veterans and civil wars, as well as the history of emotions, the First World War, and “Soviet Subjectivity”.
He teaches Modern European and Global History and serves as Director of Studies for Keble’s first year History and Joint Schools students. He received a BA in History and Russian from the University of Sheffield and an MPhil in Modern British and European History from St Antony’s College, Oxford, before moving to the US to complete his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. He returned to Oxford in 2023.
