Eric Schluessel is a historian of China and Central Asia. He researches social, cultural, and economic change mainly in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century China, with a focus on the Uyghur homeland.

Dr Schluessel received his BA in Chinese and Linguistics from Connecticut College and MAs from SOAS and Indiana University. He completed his PhD at Harvard University and previously taught at the University of Montana and the George Washington University. He joined Oxford in 2026.
